The theories of relativity and quantum mechanics, which have led to the standard model of particle physics, are a generally accepted description of the fundamental laws of nature, governing how the universe works. However, these theories often cease to work when applied to extreme physical processes, such as the behaviour of black holes, indicating that they are incomplete. String theory is a newer theory that may describe all of nature’s laws, even at the extremes. Come learn more about string theory, and its role as a theoretical laboratory for researchers in which they can conduct extreme thought experiments with black holes.
